POTENTIAL CAUSE(S)

CHECK THESE FIRST:

1. WORN PISTONS AND CYLINDER WALLS
Use slightly heavier grade oil. If oil consumption does not decrease, have components professionally serviced.

2. CLOGGED POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) VALVE; CONFIRMED IF OIL HAS SLUDGE
Replace PCV valve.

3. HIGH ENGINE OIL LEVEL
Reduce engine oil level if necessary.

4. WORN, INCORRECT, CLOGGED, OR EXCESSIVELY TIGHT PISTON RINGS
Have piston rings professionally serviced.

CHECK THESE NEXT:

5. WORN VALVE STEMS OR GUIDES
Have valves or valve guides professionally replaced.

6. OIL GRADE TOO LIGHT
Use slightly heavier grade oil.

7. INCORRECT PISTON RING GAP OR CLEARANCE
Have piston rings professionally serviced.

8. EXCESSIVE BEARING CLEARANCE
Have bearings professionally replaced.

CHECK THESE LAST:

9. DAMAGED OR MISSING VALVE SEALS
Have valve seals professionally replaced.

10. CLOGGED CYLINDER HEAD OIL DRAIN HOLES
Have cylinder head professionally repaired.

11. WORN CRANKSHAFT JOURNALS
Have crankshaft professionally replaced.

12. OVERHEATED ENGINE
Have cause of overheated engine professionally corrected.
